Andrew Heiss is Assistant Professor of International Politics and Policy at Georgetown University in Qatar. His research focuses on the role of civil society and international nongovernmental organizations in global politics, particularly in China and the Middle East. He also researches applied social science methods and writes, maintains, and contributes to many statistical and computational packages. He teaches courses in statistics, data science, data visualization, and global politics.
He has published in leading journals such as the Journal of Politics, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, International Interactions, the Journal of Statistical Software, the Journal of Human Rights, and Global Policy, and is an editor for rOpenSci. He has written for and appeared in media interviews in The Conversation and Rolling Stone.
Before joining GU-Q, he was an assistant professor of public policy at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. He received his PhD in public policy and international relations from the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, an MPA in international nonprofit management from Brigham Young University, and an MA in Middle East Studies from the American University in Cairo.
