Theodore Lai is a Doctoral Fellow at Georgetown University in Qatar for the 2026–27 academic year.

Previously, he was a Research Associate with the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. His research spans political theory, international relations, and history, with a focus on ancient political thought and democratic deliberation. His dissertation examines how the language of warfare enters domestic politics and weakens the conditions for persuasion and civic discourse, drawing on Aeschylus, Thucydides, Homer, Euripides, and Plato. He received Georgetown University’s 2025 Graduate Student Teaching Assistant Award.

He received his MA in Political Philosophy from the University of Chicago and his BA with honors in Politics, Philosophy & Economics from Yale-NUS College and is pursuing a PhD in Government at Georgetown University.
